Truthless Heroes.

I've bee listening to alot of Project 86's music lately. A common theme through the album is the idea of "truthless heroes." So I got to wondering, what is a truthless hero?

1. Samson was the Israelites first true "hero". He was physically imposing and was a great hindrance to their enemy the Philistines. He looked like a hero. But Samson had no interest in trusting God and ultimately, though he did do alot to hurt the Philistines, he did little to help better Israel like the other judges of his time.

2. David led Israel to become one of the most powerful nations of the time. He destroyed all of Israel's enemies and was a man who feared God. But he was not without reproach. David committed adultery with an Isrealite woman and murdered her husband so as not to be found out.

3. Alexander the Great was an amazing Greek tactician and leader. He led the small nation of Greece to conquer almost the entire known world. Alexander lived for battle and and warred for so long that his troops eventually laid down their arms, sick of war. Alexander was so distraught that he fell into a deep depression and went on a day and a half drinking fest with one of his generals. He died shortly after at the age of 32, having enjoyed his vast empire for barely a year....

4. Napolean completed the nearly impossible task of conquering Europe. France had crawled from the bottom of the barrel to one of the most powerful nations ever thanks to the expert work of their leader. In 1813 Napolean faced off against the combined armies of the Prussians, Austrians, Swedish, Russians, British, Spanish, and Portuguese. Through superior tactics he actually won several battles against them, but was ultimately defeated at by an army nearly triple the size of his own at the Battle of Leipzig. The Allied Coalition exiled him to the island of Elba. But Napolean was not done yet and escaped the island in 1815. He retook control of France and led a large French army March against the British and Prussian armies. He was soundly defeated and was exiled to a more remort island where he died of arsenic poisoning.

5. Hitler was even considered a national hero by the Germans. He led them out of a massive depression and made them into possibly the most feared nation of the 20th century. He slaughtered millions of Jews and committed suicide as the Allies close in around Berlin.

6. Barrack Obama promised America hope and change and drew millions to his cause. The phenomena was overwhelming. But a year into his Presidency and America had fallen into massive debt and recession. Many of his promises remain unkept.

All of these men brought their nations a sense of salvation and victory. But each of them failed somewhere or another and fell short of any possibility of being the hero that they were all thought to be. They all became "truthless" or imperfect heroes.


Does the world have heroes? Perhaps, but they have all fallen short and are susceptible to sin like the rest of us. They are no better off than anyone else.

So what is a true hero? The One who offered true salvation and lived a perfect life. He controlled the largest empire ever and defeated each of his foe's attacks. He sacrificed Himself to save His people and defeated Death, a difficult foe to say the least :P . Jesus is the Savior of the world and His actions are the most impacting of all time.
